FINAL REVIEW

Assalamualaikum & hi!

Final is around the corner and I’m almost done with this subject. Indeed, critical literacy is a hard subject. Just what I said in my first post, if you understand the subject well, you can do well. . This subject taught me on how to think critically and outside the box as we need to think from a different angle and another perspective to obtain information from the article. It is also taught me to search for evidence using the 10 rules. For me, it’s a bit fun subject and need a lot of effort to do the assignments given. And not to forget, it taught us not to be procrastinating.

My recommendation for this subject is the mass lecture will not be held in the future. Learning with others student in a place will lead the student to talk, sleep and even play with each other. Some students could not concentration that much in that learning environment. Next, I hope the article that we need to do in assignment 1 also will be reduced. The assignment also revolves with 10 rules and us as a student need much time to do it as we also having other subject’s assignment to be done. I also hope that the marks (the percentage) for the assignment 1 will be exchanged with assignment 2. Doing the first assignment, the student still not get a clear vision on how to relate it with the 10-rules.

Lastly, I would like to dedicate special thanks to Madam Yaya for teaching us this subject with lots of patience. I know it’s not easy to teach and make the student understand right away about the subject. And also thank you to Madam Za and Sir Mark for teaching us in a mass lecture. Not to forget, my fellow classmates for helping me so much in this subject.  Last words, good luck for the juniors who will be take this subject next semester. Hehe

BODY, MIND & SOUL

“The body is the greatest possession, the mind is the greatest treasure and the spirit are the greatest companion.”

Yes. Somehow I agree with the quote and love it. In my point of view, its mean that our body, our mind, and our spirit is the best for us. It’s a gift from Allah that we should be thankful and appreciate.
Possession. Yes, our body is the greatest possession. It’s hard for us having one hand, one leg and others. In easy words, having an incomplete body structure. Be thankful if we’re having a complete body structure and capable of doing everything on our own instead of depending only on other. Some people are not that lucky as they have a disability and their movement is limited. How to show your appreciation for having a good body? By taking care of them as a sign we’re thankful.

Mind.  Our mind is known to be a very mysterious subject. Sometimes, there are still a lot of things that is left unexplained about our mind. But we can’t do anything about it. Sometimes it goes beyond on our awareness. But it’s our mind controls everything. It’s we who control it. So, we need to use our mind wisely. A good mind is when you fill it with things that can help you to improve your life and avoid from negativity.

Last but not least, the spirit is the greatest companion. Spirit is the nonphysical part of a person. The spirit plays a vital role in a human life as it makes you to be a good person or not. In this tough world, only a person with a strong spiritual can survive. Spirits may come in the form of self-motivation of a person. When you’re not having a good day or feeling down, you need spirit to inspire you to get up and start a new chapter in your life. If you have no spirits you are not able to feel things. Is that what you really want in your life? As said in Malay idiom, “jatuh 7 kali, bangkit 8 kali.”

Based on my view of all the statement is we do need all of these elements in our life. We should practice these elements in our life as it is the best us. It also helps us a lot in many ways. We should be thankful as not everybody has or experienced what we have. We are the lucky one and rock it right!

Money can buy happiness?

Assalamualaikum

Alright, the topic given is to discuss the agreement or disagreement towards the statement which goes, “If money were the only criterion by which a child’s welfare can be gauged, then a baby bought for as much as RM40,000.00 on the black market would seem set for life. For money-rich but child-poor couples, it is a small price to pay to introduce a small life into their home. The cot is gilded, the blanket monogrammed, the college fund filled to the brim. All that’s wanting a bun in the oven. And where there is a baby –for-sale racket, money can indeed buy happiness. And after all, why not?” (NST, March 3, 2013). This statement is important enough to us, the reader to aware about this matter as in Malaysia, we also involved with this issue. From the idea of the statement, I totally disagree with them.

First and the foremost, buy a child in the black market does not guarantee happiness even if you are rich. Money is can’t buy happiness as it actually brings happiness. But, to replace a presence of our family with our wealth it’s something unacceptable. Imagine on when you are buying a child. You must felt happy as the child could bring happiness to you. But, what will happen when they found out that they were purchased and it is in an illegal way? Instead of buying them in the black market and we can’t predict what will happen in the future if they know this disappoint thing, they should do in a legal way (child adoption) and follow the procedure.
Next, by having lots of money, it does not mean you can gauge the child welfare. Nowadays, parents forget to give love and attention as they keep spoil the kids with money. Instead of providing and reminding how important money in life, they should know that the kids also need love and more attention. Not be able to hug them, sharing things with them, not getting an attention that they should get. It is sad, isn’t? All they can do is to ignore these feeling. There is no use having lots of money but there is no connection in term of emotional and love.

In a nutshell, I still disagree with the statement. Money can blind anyone for doing anything including an illegal one. I hope that we can differentiate on what we should buy or not even if we are rich.

STEREOTYPING

What is stereotyping? In my understanding, stereotype means judging people a group of people who are different from us and make any assumption on it without the valid reason. Nowadays, the stereotype is a common thing in our society. The stereotype is not only related with our first impression about toward something, but it also included our religion and culture as well. It became wide and goes beyond the facts at hand. The most common stereotype exist in Malaysian is where Malay was labelled as lazy people.

In my opinion, the stereotype has become a habit for us which are why most of the people can't avoid having a stereotype.  In fact, some of them might not even realize that they often have stereotype on people as it is a normal thing to label and make any assumption towards people. However, it is unhealthy and not a good habit to be done in our daily life. This stereotype will lead to conflict as people will fight each other. Everyone is not the same person. So, the stereotype on Malay is lazy cannot be accepted as not every Malay people is a lazy person. Some of them are successful people, for example, Vivy Yusuf. If Malays are lazy, so why she can make it and success in her life? Yes, everyone has their right to judge people but they need to limit it and not to blame the whole community. In this matter, it’s not suitable to apply “One bad apple spoils the barrel” term.

EXPECTATIONS & HOPE FOR THIS SUBJECT

Assalamualaikum & hi!

Okay when you’re going to semester 4, you will be listening more about this one course called Critical Literacy, CL from your senior. But I already been hearing about this subject since semester 3 when I’m about to give up on Introduction the Tertiary Learning, ITTL subject last semester. It started when the seniors always remind me that the subject on Semester 4 will be tougher than last semester.

“No, ITTL is nothing compared to CL.” “Ah, ‘good luck’ for your CL.” “Good luck and don’t repeat that paper.” And I heard more than that together with their sarcastic tone. It became harder when the day of registering the class is around the corner, when we actually need to decide which lecturer we want them to teach. It’s where you heard much about seniors told us or maybe our friend shared the information from the super seniors.

For me, the word ‘critical’ already scared me. I already think that I might be critical same as the subject’s name haha. But, all I can do is trying my best and praying that I will pass this paper or maybe pass with flying colour (well, daydreaming about it will not cost anything :p)
Until the first class, our coordinator for this subject, Madam Zariati conducts the subject in the mass lecture. She enlightens us and gives introduction a bit about this subject. From my understanding, this subject revolves around the rule of 10. By mastering and understand about this rule, you can do the assignments well. I can see that it is important to have full understanding of this rule. I hope that I will able to fully mastered and doing well in writing the rules of 10. This subject would tough me on how to think critically and outside the box as you need to think from different angle and other perspective to obtain information from the article. And not to forget, this subject also encouraged the student to read more. From hate, you will love reading.

I just hope and pray that everyone will pass this subject!
